Well fit cycling shoes will make your pedaling more efficient, powerful and comfortable.  More like a ski boot than a running shoe, cycling shoes last.  They are rigid to prevent your foot from fatigue.  Bike shoe closures are velcro, buckles or quick ratcheting BOA or wire system.  Entry level cycling shoes have nylon soles, higher end shoes will use carbon soles for added stiffness and low weight.  Sidi shoes, Shimano, Giro and Pearl Izumi shoes are all available at Moment Bicycles.  Triathlon shoes have large velcro closures for lightning fast transitions from swim to bike and bike to run of your triathlon.  Ask about what shoes work best with particular pedal models.
